BIFA Illustrations, December 2011

Model: Iris demonstrating the foils on the BIFA 2011 programme cover. Iris is Belle's cousin and kindly agreed to fill in while Belle is on the road in Japan. Note to self: maybe re-draw Tessa's lips before BIFA 2012.

I ♥ the postman, part VIII

Twenty-two years ago at this same silly time of year they killed Nicolai Ceausescu. It was shocking. What we didn't know then was that Ceausescu was a buffoon, the de facto Gary Glitter of the socialist countries. But what we also didn't know was that his fall from power and his subsequent execution were the result of an internecine struggle in the Communist Party of Romania from which Ion Iliescu emerged as the sparkly new president.

So anyway, today's object of unparalleled beauty which arrived in the mail is Volume 2 of Graphics without Computers – Letters. Hand-drawn, Embossed, Volumetric, a beautiful and scholarly study of typography from the pre-'89 era. If you are interested we already covered Volume 1 here and when Belle is back from Japan we'll most likely do some more photographs.

Aladdin innit

Last week saw the Gipsy Hill Federation Repertory Company's production of Aladdin. It was pretty darn awesome. Also, there is a short clip of a quite famous soliloquy here (but only if we are in some way connected on Facebook).

Happy birthday to Belle

Belle is seven, that's right, seven! So all you five and six year-olds can just get out of town right now.
